Community Programs Helping Those To Help Themselves Volunteer Transportation Assistance Program Volunteer Rez Transportation Assistance Program: This program would help shuttle elders and the disabled to receive government assistance and medical appointments as needed. There is no charge for volunteer transportation services. Drivers could be volunteers who provide a personalized, one-on-one transportation service. The fuel and maintenance costs would come from other funding sources. The Volunteer Transportation Assistance Program would need long term sustainable funding which could come from numerous government and private grants or charitable and philanthropic organizations. This program is hoped to receive future funding Firewood For Indians Firewood for Indians: This program would consist of volunteers who bring needed firewood to elders and disabled on the Reservation. Providing fire wood for cooking and heating with the volunteer support from their community. First someone will have to organize a process to determine who needs firewood. Then volunteers will need those who cut the wood, then split the wood to fit into fit places or stoves. Others will have to transport the wood to a central location to be deliver to those in need. This would only be a winter project. However, autumn would be a good time to begin the program before the brutal winter that South Dakota received every year. Christmas For Indians Program that communities, organizations, businesses and church's can support to help make the holidays a little better for American Indian people who are truly in need. (tag here for more info) Hygiene Kits Hygiene Kits: Helping those who need soap, tooth past and toiletry items including women personal hygiene needs. - Personal Care Items; Toiletries, Soap, Tooth Paste & Brush, Shampoo, Toilet Paper. - Hygiene Kit: 2 unbreakable combs; 4 toothbrushes; 1 tube toothpaste; 2 bars of soap; & 2 hand towels. - Clothes, especially Winter Clothes for all ages, especially infants, children and Seniors. - Enclose a brief note of caring; Let them know that others in this world care and pray for their well being. We received dozens of Hygiene Kits in 2007 that were sent to La Jolla Indian Reservation in California after the fires and Rosebud Reservation in South Dokota Food Food: Delivers nutritious food supplies to isolated and deprived Elders and families in Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations in South Dakota as well as other reservations in need. We sent several large boxes of food that would feed a few adult for an entire month were sent to Pine Ridge Reservation in 2007 & 2008. This program is on going. Clothing Clothing: Delivering summer and mostly winter clothing, including blankets, coats, winter gloves & caps, shirts & pants, etc., to Native American families. We collect donated cloths from the Mormon church communities in Utah and California private and public organizations and individuals. We received dozens of bags of donated clothes in 2007 & 2008 that were sent to La Jolla Indian Reservation in California after the devastating fires and Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. In 2008 we will be shipping a large truck load already awaiting shipment Disaster Relief Disaster Relief: Assisting vulnerable populations when hit by fires, flood, extreme winters, water shortages and other natural disasters. This last years after the devastating fires in Southern California, the La Jolla Reservation was destroyed by 80% and the remaining structures were mostly destroyed by smoke and water damage. We sent 3 truck loads of donated clothes, toys, food, blankets and more in 2007.
